PACE Program

Parents Active in Cooperative Education (PACE), is a choice educational enrichment program offered to Northshore School District (NSD) students in grades 1-5.  Entry to PACE is determined by blind lottery (space permitting). PACE is located at three NSD Elementary Schools and serves students from the entire Northshore School District.

PACE builds a learning environment that includes active family participation; innovative teaching techniques; and a unique partnership of teachers, families and students.  The PACE program serves students of all learning capabilities, follows the NSD curriculum and also provides an enriched educational experience through additional field trips, events, and speakers.

Focus of PACE

PACE focuses on creating a unique learning environment that includes:

  • Enrichment activities and active parent participation to support each student's learning style and developmental rate;
  • Encouraging students to be independent and self-motivated learners; and
  • Full access to all school activities and events including PE, music, and library, assemblies and after-school activities.

All PACE programs meet the curriculum requirements of the Northshore School District.

Shared Mission

While each of the three PACE sites operate separately and offer different enrichment opportunities, they share the same mission:

We are a community of children, teachers, and parents active in cooperative education who strive to enrich and deepen learning, independence, and leadership. We value respect, compassion, and responsibility in building our community of lifelong learners.”

Family Commitment

PACE families must volunteer a minimum of 80 hours per year in support of the program, either inside or outside of the classroom. There are a number of volunteer opportunities conducive to families with working parents. Each PACE program also requests an annual financial contribution from its families. Depending on the program, this support may take the form of an annual fee, a fundraising requirement, or an expectation to help run program fundraisers. Scholarships are available for families who are unable to fulfill this obligation. More information is available on request from your local PACE site’s Enrollment Coordinator.

Enrollment

If you are interested in enrolling in the PACE program, please contact the enrollment coordinator at the site serving your neighborhood feeder pattern. There is an application process and placement is determined in a blind lottery in late winter, based upon your current address.
