Principal's Message

Dear Lockwood Families,

Thank you so much for joining us at Curriculum Night and the Ice Cream Social!
It was truly a pleasure to see so many of you there. Your presence and involvement are essential in building the strong, caring, and connected school community we value so deeply at Lockwood.

As we’ve kicked off the school year, this first month has brought some unexpected challenges. Shifts in student and teacher schedules—as well as class placements—have understandably created some stress. Yet through it all, the Lockwood spirit has been clear. Our families, staff, and students have responded with empathy, flexibility, and incredible support—showing what it truly means to be part of this community.

Throughout this time, I’ve appreciated the opportunity to listen to your thoughts, share feedback, and reflect with you on these transitions. I’m especially grateful for your patience and understanding as we've worked through these changes together.

Most importantly, our students have shown amazing resilience. Those who experienced changes in classrooms or teachers are already settling in, building new routines, and forming strong connections with both their peers and new teachers.

Thank you again for your continued support, grace, and adaptability. We’re looking forward to many more joyful moments and shared successes in the weeks and months ahead.

Halloween & Costumes / Book-themed Trunk-or-Treat

At Lockwood, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community where all students can fully participate in school events—regardless of religious beliefs, cultural practices, or financial circumstances.

We recognize that the tradition of wearing costumes may conflict with the values or teachings of some families. Additionally, we want to be mindful of the financial impact such events can have. With these considerations in mind, we will continue our school-day tradition of not incorporating costumes into our October celebrations.

Instead, our in-school activities will focus on the beauty of fall and the seasonal changes it brings. Students will enjoy classroom parties, seasonal art projects, and engaging activities that spark creativity, joy, and social connection.

For families who enjoy the tradition of costumes and trick-or-treating, the PTA is sponsoring a wonderful alternative!

Join in a fun-filled, book-themed Trunk-or-Treat on October 24th — a great opportunity for students to dress up, celebrate, and enjoy the evening with family and friends.

The PTA will be sending more details soon — stay tuned!

From the Nurse

Vision and Hearing Screening

Lockwood vision and hearing screenings will be held October 20th. Please remember to send glasses with your student if they wear them. As a reminder, if you would like to opt out your student, please contact the school nurse at troufs@nsd.org or 425-408-5806.

Become a Colunteer (Classroom/Field Trip)

All volunteers in Northshore are required to complete an online volunteer application to volunteer during the school year. It is also important to note that all volunteers who have completed a background check in the past will be expected to renew their volunteer application annually. If you completed a Level 2 background check in the past, you will only need to complete a Level 1 check to renew your volunteer status.

Join the Lunch Recess Volunteer Team

Our playground volunteers help make Lockwood a safe and fun place to be by helping kids in small ways like tying shoes, to bigger ways like giving gentle reminders of school policy, reporting incidents to playground staff and building social skills. This is a great way to get to know our school and Lockwood students of all ages!

If interested, use the link below after you have read through Northshore School District Volunteer Orientation and completed your volunteer background check (see Become a Volunteer above).

Bring other Children when Volunteering

We truly appreciate your ongoing support and the enthusiasm you bring to our volunteer efforts. Your dedication makes a meaningful difference in our community.

To help us stay focused and maintain a productive environment, we kindly ask that volunteers come alone when helping on campus. This allows us to manage activities more smoothly and ensures that everyone can fully contribute.

Thank you for your understanding—we’re excited to work together this year!

Change in After School Plans

Any changes to your student’s normal routine must be confirmed with a written note from a parent or guardian. If a note is not possible, please call the office at 425-408-5800 by:

  • 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
  • 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday

This ensures the teacher has time to make necessary arrangements.

Please do not email staff, as absences or substitutes may prevent timely communication.

Morning Drop-Off Reminders

  • No Early Drop-Off - Please do not drop off students before 9:10 a.m., when staff supervision begins.
  • Pull Forward - To keep the line moving efficiently, pull all the way forward in the drop-off zone before stopping.
  • Curbside Exit Only -For safety reasons, students should exit on the curb side of the vehicle only.
  • Be Ready to Unload -Make sure your student is prepared to exit quickly. If needed, staff can assist with coats or backpacks once outside the vehicle.
